Professional Development Plan

Through my experience in graduate school, I had the opportunity to develop among various areas through my Residence Life internship, Service-Learning practicum, coursework, etc. As part of my coursework in CSP 6050, I had the opportunity to reflect on a few knowledge areas and competencies that I claim expertise in. Additionally, this reflection allowed me to discover some deficient areas. Using this information, I was able to create a professional development plan for the next 3 years in order to increase my competency in those areas.

What do I Know?

Although I feel like I have a basic understanding of the ten competencies, I know my knowledge expands passed various areas.  This has been the result of my unique path through the CSP curriculum and my work experience as a Graduate Hall Director.  For this section, I explored four expertise areas.  Within each area, I explained what I know, how I obtained the knowledge, and how I believe that it will lead to my success as a professional.

Areas of Knowledge that I claim

  • Residence Life: Supervision
  • Conduct Hearer
  • Incorporating Reflection
  • Staff Development

What I Wish I Knew?

When holistically looking at my experiences, I have not yet explored the areas that I feel I know very little about. Although I believe I have gained some level of knowledge in these areas, I feel like I can do a much better job of expanding and learning more about them. In this section, I briefly explained the areas that I believe I need more knowledge about. In addition, I included four competency areas that I have very limited knowledge about in order to provide a framework for my professional development plan.

Areas of Deficiencies that I will continue to develop

  • Students with Emotional Disorders
  • Multicultural Competency
  • Service-Learning as a Functional Area
  • Assessment, Evaluation, and Research
  • Law, Governance, and Policy
  • History, Philosophy, and Values
  • Ethical Professional Practice

The document named "Personal Discernment: My Professional Development Plan" serves as the medium where I discuss both my expertise and deficiency areas. I have also provided the "Development Chart" as a separate document.  Both documents are downloadable at the bottom of the page.
